A POEM FOR EKUSHEY 2021

What I write on Facebook is mostly carefully calibrated,

based on sincerity and a clear thought process

This makes it difficult for anyone to dismiss or discredit me,

on ethical, factual or logical grounds or with respect to my integrity

I never deliberately lie, although I make mistakes

When I post something somewhat impulsively,

the size of any mistakes is unlikely to be large

This is because the entirety of my being is hardwired for fearless honesty

Also, as what I write is grounded in considered thought and sincere foundations,

I can argue my case with an incredible degree of confidence

This does not mean that I can’t be criticised for my views

As human fallibility always places limitations on what we can know and do,

just like others, I make mistakes too

Objections to my views, whether sincere or motivated,

will help improve my knowledge and the nuances of my thoughts,

so I welcome and look forward to receiving them, regardless of whatever the kind

But insincere and unethical responses to what write,

will only experience an immediate and swift defeat

The spirit of Ekushey is defiance against the wrongful might,

and fighting for what is right

So, when I see people foolishly getting confused into behaving in unEkushey ways,

by unknowingly, and without realising, adopting fascist ways,

I feel very sad, but not defeated!
